Poised. Intelligent. Attractive. Radiant. Beautiful. If I had a daughter she would have been in front of the television late last night – even it if were a school night! For the first role model of womanhood should be Mom; she has done that effortlessly! Her support of her husband is exemplary! Essentially, if First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention didn’t convince you to shield your girls and young women from the derogatory portrayal of African American women on so-called reality TV, I implore you to watch her speech again. She spoke a truth without profanity, blame, and/or negative attitude. Mrs. Michelle Obama carried herself with a dignity that would get many Black women accused of being “uppity”; well, so be it! She is the closest role model that I have in my age group, as Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz were more mother figures; refined. The First Lady is a peer that I am guided by, and for that I encourage Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts, Cousins, and Peers to take to Michelle Obama – a woman worthy of emulating.
